I have problems with my knees from a virus several years back, Will squats hurt or help my knees?

I am currently 16. The virus caused one of my knees to swell up (don’t recall which one of them). The virus was thought to be Roseola. The doctor i went to said i might have rheumatoid arthritis when i went to him after my knees started swelling really bad.

I’m assuming that by ‘might have arthritis’, you don’t currently have symptoms. If you feel ANY pain or serious discomfort from doing squats, ignore me and check with a physiotherapist or doctor. Take it slow. That out of the way..

Properly done squats will not hurt the knees. They will only cause you problems if your form is bad. They will help strengthen the muscles and tendons around the knee joint, and can help balance out the joint and relieve pain in some cases. If you haven’t done them before, I’d suggest having a trainer/gym attendant watch to make sure you have the right idea. Main issues are to keep your knees in line with your feet, and don’t let your knees past your toes. Worry more about that than getting all the way down until you feel comfortable.
