Does anyone know what roseola is?

My son is going to be one year old in 9 days. He recently was running a high temp then it followed by a red rash everywhere! I brought him to the doctor and the doctor told me he had roseola! I just feel so bad for him does anyone know anything that helps during this? I am just trying to comfort him but i feel so bad he is just miserable!!!

Roseola is a mild virus that is generally harmless and often starts with a sudden high fever that lasts 2 to 3 days (up to 8 days). Try Tylenol or ibuprofen for the fever. The rash is typically not itchy, may last 1 to 2 days and will go away without treatment, but if your son is uncomfortable, here are some things to try:

Keep the itchy area cool and wet. Put a cloth soaked in ice water on the rash a few times a day (not too often, which will dry his skin and exacerbate the issue).

Try an oatmeal bath…the oatmeal will relieve the itching and the bath will cool his temperature. Either buy Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal bath packets in the bath isle at your drugstore, or do it at home by wrapping a cup of oatmeal in a cotton cloth or sock and boil it as you would to cook it, then let it cool to room temperature and use it as a sponge while bathing your son in cool water (no soap).

Dress him in soft cotton clothing and use soap sparingly, and only gentle ones like Basis, Cetaphil, Dove, or Oil of Olay.

Good luck, it’s so hard to watch your own kid suffer, hope this helps!
